Superior Detection
The C65 includes full X, K, SuperWide Ka, and Safety Warning System radar capability, front and rear laser detection, complete with digital signal processing (DSP) for superior long-range ability and reduced false alarms. AutoScan mode can virtually eliminate those false alarms, and provides both Highway and City sensitivity settings.

Mute and AutoMute
Escort's patented AutoMute feature automatically reduces the alert volume after initially alerting you at your selected volume. This keeps you informed without the annoyance of a continuous full-volume alert. If you'd prefer, you can turn the AutoMute feature off.

The Mute button, located on C65's top case, allows you to silence the audio alert entirely.

Easy to Use
With the C65, you'll enjoy control right at your fingertips using the included SmartPlug power cord. Patented Mute and AutoMute technology on the cord allows you to quickly silence alerts without reaching for the detector. Advanced programming lets you customize several features, and programmable bands let you set the device for your region, including International and North American settings.

Installation is a snap: use the quick release mount to attach it to your vehicle's windshield, and remove it in a snap. A durable zipper travel case is included to take the unit with you, or neatly conceal it in your vehicle.

Ultra-Bright LED Display
Don't miss a visual alert with the C65's 280-LED alphanumeric display. Exclusive threat display tracks and displays multiple radar signals, including signal strength. Tech Display provides actual numeric radar frequency for any radar signal. You can also view Safety Warning System (SWS) messages about upcoming hazards, construction and more.

Safety Radar
Safety Warning System, or SWS, uses a modified K-band radar signal to alert users of Highway Construction or Maintenance, Highway Hazard Zone Advisories, Weather Related Hazards, Travel Information/Convenience, and Fast/Slow Moving Vehicles. The SWS safety radar system has 64 possible messages (60 currently allocated), all of which can be displayed on your C65.

Great performance with few false alarms

I have been using the Escort C-65 for a month now and the performance has been great. The dsiplay is simple and easy to read, and the voice feature is helpful in keeping your eyes on the road. Minimal false alarms, even in the city, and the long range has saved me more than once. The Smartcord is cool as it has the mute button on the cord, so when it does go off, you can simply reach down and mute it without the reach to the window. Very happy with the unit and would recommend to friends.

Here is a top of the line match anything microwave detector for the price.
Only things it lacks, stealth and GPS data base.
Otherwise works as well as my Bel STi but $200+ less. Put it in my not go as fast PU.
The Honda Si has the Bel STi
If you do not need stealth and a hard case, this is a rare deal.

Pro Great Deal for the price
Con No auto dim or stealth
Works Well, has Some Nice Features

This is my first radar unit. I do a lot of highway travel in Arizona. Unlike some of my friends that have detectors I do not consider myself a "speeder." However, in Arizona, the common practice on the highway is to drive at least 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit. There have been times I've been driving at 80 mp only to notice someone right on my bumper, who will then give you a dirty look or the one finger salute when they pass you at 90. Drive at the speed limit in Arizona and you're setting yourself up for a road rage situation. I'm not saying that you should drive at an unsafe speed just because other people are. My point is that just to keep up with traffic you have to go somewhat over the limit.

I've had this detector for about a month now and have been satisfied with its performance. It has warned me several times when a cop with a radar gun is ahead. I don't think laser has really caught on in this state so I do not know how well the laser detector works. Arizona has a lot of "photo radar" locations and I know people that have bought detectors after getting caught with photo radar. What they do not realize is that the permanent photo locations use sensors in the road to detect vehicle speed. A detector is useless. The movable photo radar vehicles do use radar though.

Pros:
* The unit, while a little on the heavy side is fairly compact.
* The display is very bright and easily readable day and night, even with polarized sunglasses.
* The volume is adjustable and when set at high is quite loud. My hearing is not that great and it is fine for me. My daughter even tells me to turn it down sometimes when she is trying to listen to music on her headphones in the back seat.
* There are various detection modes and options that you can set. However the "autodetect" mode works very well.
* The smart cord is very handy if you have the detector located somewhere hard to reach.
* There are a lot of nice features which you can read about in the product description which I won't repeat.
* It comes in a nice carrying case and they provide extra suction cups.

Cons:
* The manual, while fairly well written, is dated. It describes the Safety Warning System (SWS) as a new technology that is growing every day. However, SWS was started many years ago and never caught on. It's my understanding that the company that create SWS declared bankruptcy a few years ago and almost no agencies use SWS anymore. The SWS website the manual tells you to go to is gone. I have never had a SWS alarm and don't think it's used anymore in Arizona.
* Every time you power it on it goes through a start-up mode and sounds off all of its various alarms. It's very annoying.
* While the display is very bright, the red alphanumeric display reminds me of old technology... something you'd find on a 20 year old LED wristwatch. I'd prefer amber, green or blue.
* In Phoenix the detector sounds off , with a low grade signal, when approaching many traffic lights. They must have radar emitting detectors set up for red light cameras and to detect traffic flow. There is probably a way to program the detector to ignore these. However I get a lot of false alarms at many major intersections. This is not really a con of the unit,it is doing what it is supposed to. Just a negative of using detectors. You will get false alarms at times.

Overall I'm satisfied with both the performancea and feature of the unit.

Good detection, but wished the suction cups were better

Reviewer: Thomas,
I did a lot of research before buying a radar. I read many reviews and roamed through the forums. I finally settled on this one as it is a rebadged beltronics RX65 which has a very good detection. I live in chicago, so I had the chance to test the false alerts. On regular autoscan, I would get a few, around CTA train station and especially in downtown. They were all X bands and plus I do not speed in the city. On Low X city, its a bit quieter, but still has false alerts. You know its working at least. Ka Band detection is where this puppy shines. I already picked up two LEOs hiding on the first day of using it in the suburbs. I definately would recommend it for those who do not need a GPS radar and just want detection.

I only gave 4 stars because the suction cups do not work very well as I had the radar fall twice. But other than that, I am happy with my purchase.

What to Look For in Radar Detector Ratings

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

There are several things to look at the use of radar detectors reviews as reference material before purchasing any of the electronic gadgets. Essentially, the factors to consider are the characteristics that are commonly found available detectors. A decision must be based on whether a function is important, or just an add-made, based on only a secondary role in the final selection.

Sensitivity and range is the most important factor to consider before selecting a> Radar detector. A detector in a position to offer greater range will give the driver more time to speed up result if an alarm is triggered, are lagging behind. The detector can detect radar signals around a curve or a hill would be most ideal. The ranges of the detectors are very different on the different types of radar speed-monitoring devices are used to. Ranges for the various detector are several websites in this regard may be helpful.

A function to filter false alarms isAnother important factor to consider, the radar detector ratings. Many electronic devices also send radio signals in the same frequencies used in radar-based speed monitoring devices. A good detector should be able to signals from these devices, security and automatic doors, all are very widespread it must be insulated.

Particular attention should be given on the display function of radar detectors. Basically there are three display typesSelect from different detector models: Text, Icon and LED. Icon and LED displays are typically difficult to read because of their limited space to display text so that the edge in radar detector ratings.

Are Radar Detectors Legal in the US and in Which States are They Prohibited?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

A considerable number of people with cars in the United States have their own radar detectors. My reason is that they feel that the speed limit is currently still low. Most Americans are not satisfied with moderate speed while driving. You want the fastest driver on the road and get to the places they go in record time, they always want in the race.

The radar detector serves as their alarm when the police in the vicinitythem. Once the radar detector alarm sounds, they can just slow down the gas and speed off.

Due to the planned radar detectors that are known to every driver, cops, hiding in the alleyways or behind bridges in order to avoid that detected by the radar detectors.

Motorists on the other side will be wise, they are aware of these techniques by the police, so that more enhanced, top-dollar detectors are enteredMarket.

Though the policemen are always improving the chances to catch radar detector users, they are not in a position to make the streets of the United States radar detector-free.

Radar detectors are legal in many cities and states in the United States. But that does not mean that radar detector units in all states in the U.S. legally.

Here are some of the states that radar detectors are illegal hold:

1. TheUse of radar detectors are prohibited in the Commonwealth of Virginia. You have to have laws prohibiting the use of radar detectors. Not only are radar detectors illegal in Virginia to use, they will also be illegal in the vehicle.

2nd radar detectors and radar jammers are illegal in the District of Columbia. The adoption of legislation to ban the use of radar detectors was set in 1995.

3. In Illinois,Radar detectors are only used in commercial vehicles over 26,001 pounds of regulated.

4. On U.S. bases, they are legal to use illegal, but to.

5th radar jammers are illegal in Utah, California, Oklahoma, Colorado and Nebraska.

6th Radar detectors are not specifically regulated, but the things hanging from windshields are not permitted in the state of Minnesota.

7. For motor vehicles over 18,000 pounds, and othercommercial motor vehicles over 10,000 pounds in New York, radar detectors are illegal.

And other states that prohibit the use of radar detectors are the following:

• Alabama

• Arizona

• Arkansas

• Colorado

• Delaware

• Florida

• Georgia

• Idaho

• Indiana

• Iowa

• Kansas

• Kentucky
