| I absolutely love my Beltronics detector, and i finally decided to get rid of the coil/springy d/c power line in favor of the hardwire kit. The kit came with plenty of cord - both from the mute/button assembly to the detector and also to the fuse block. My two issues: 1)no velcro to attach the mute button anywhere, and 2) the "plug" end (to power the system) only has a generic power/fuse fitting on the end. I had to go to the auto parts store and buy a $7.99 fuse plug adapter, snip off the lead Beltronics had on the end of the hardwire, crimp on the fuse plug, find an empty fuse, etc etc etc... In short, i would have paid more for a "complete installation kit" rather than something so basic. Trust me - this kit works GREAT - and the way I have it installed makes all the wires almost invisible - practically factory looking. Beltronics makes a great product, but the instructions with the hardwire kit i bought and the lack of versatility in the install of it irritated me... If you have a Beltronics detector, don't hesitate to buy this kit, just be prepared to work a bit to make it work for you...! |

This is my first Radar detector. I researched first before buying and could not afford Beltronics. Moreover I do not see point in buying those. Read on as to why.
Beltronics can detect radar from upto 4 miles. It's practically a useless range. Cops are smart. They do not target your car or any area if it's straight. They scan you from the opposite lane when you are driving or on the blind turns. They do not keep the trigger pressed. They use their gun when they are sure that within seconds they can get reading. So 4 miles range is useless. What you need is a warning when someone's targeting you. Whistler does this job perfectly. It will even catch any radar that's facing away from you just in time for you to slow down. Don't get caught in POP and Laser no unit can save you from these. No one can save you from cop who's pacing with you either so be careful even after you buy any radar detector.
About this unit, It's quick, less false alarms. Auto-quiet feature is excellent. My whistler is always on auto-quiet. Safety warnings are good to know.
I recommend you buy this item if you exceed speed limit by 15mph or more. You will be amazed how many times a car gets tagged on the long drive and how cops hide.

With the Cobra 9117, you will know whats ahead before you get there. VG 2 Alerts: Though the system is undetectable by VG 2 radar, this system will pick up the signal and alert you. City/highway switch allows the user to select the operating mode, which reduces the frequency of false alarms in densely populated urban areas. Additional features: A proximity detector can gauge how far from the source of a radar or laser signal you are, and Intellmute relative speed sensing helps reduce false alarms. There is an automatic mute which can be set to immediately mute the alarm for the drivers convenience, and the unit retains its memory settings even if the power source is removed. |
